Orenda HD50 API SP/CD

Typical Properties

Property Typical Value Remarks
SAE Viscosity Grade SAE 50 High viscosity; suited for high-temperature, high-load applications
Viscosity @ 100°C ~18–21 cSt Ensures film strength at high operating temperatures
Viscosity Index ~95–105 Moderate temperature stability
Pour Point -9 to -15°C Indicates cold temperature fluidity
Flash Point (COC) >220°C High flash point improves safety and thermal resistance
Total Base Number (TBN) ~7–10 mg KOH/g Good detergent level for neutralizing acids in both gasoline and diesel use
Sulphated Ash ~1.0–1.5% Helps in detergency but should be balanced to reduce deposits
Density @ 15°C ~0.88–0.89 g/cm³ Typical for mineral-based heavy-duty oils
API Performance SP (Gasoline), CD (Diesel) Suitable for older engines; not for modern emission-compliant engines
Detergent/Dispersant Level Moderate to High Helps prevent sludge and carbon deposits
Zinc (ZDDP) Present (~0.08–0.12%) Provides anti-wear protection, especially for flat-tappet engines

HD50 engine oil is a monograde, high-viscosity lubricant formulated for use in both gasoline and diesel engines, particularly those operating under high load and temperature conditions. It conforms to the API SP specification for modern gasoline engines and the API CD specification for older diesel engines, making it a dual-purpose oil suitable for mixed fleet use where both engine types are present.

🔧 Key Features and Benefits:

  • High Viscosity (SAE 50):
Offers excellent film strength, particularly in high-temperature environments such as heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, or older performance vehicles. Helps maintain oil pressure and protect engine components under stress.

  • API SP Performance (Gasoline Engines):
Ensures protection against low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI), sludge formation, and wear in gasoline engines. Also supports turbocharger cleanliness and timing chain wear protection in modern engines.

  • API CD Performance (Diesel Engines):
Provides sufficient protection for older diesel engines without after-treatment systems. Offers soot dispersion and acid neutralization capability, minimizing piston deposits and wear.

  • Detergent and Dispersant Additives:
Keeps engine internals clean by suspending contaminants and reducing deposit formation.

  • Zinc-Based Anti-Wear (ZDDP):
Contains zinc dialkyldithiophosphate, an effective anti-wear additive, especially beneficial in engines with flat tappet camshafts.

  • Thermal and Oxidation Stability:
Maintains lubricating properties under extended high-temperature operation, preventing oil thickening and degradation.

  • Corrosion and Rust Protection:
Inhibits oxidation and guards metal surfaces during storage or intermittent use.

🏁 Applications:

  • Suitable for heavy-duty, naturally aspirated or turbocharged diesel engines.

  • Ideal for older gasoline engines requiring high-viscosity oils, especially in hot climates.

  • Not recommended for modern engines requiring low-viscosity oils or those with DPF, EGR, or SCR systems due to higher ash content.
